Trip of a Lifetime with Princess Cruises!

If you came into money what would you do? Where would you go? Who would you go with?

I always thought if we ever had a windfall, then I’d go on a cruise, around the world, with my darling boy, Dave.

Princess Cruises

We’ve been together nearly 34 years, married for most of them, and oh my goodness I haven’t won the lottery but my dream has just come true.

We are off on the trip of a lifetime around the world on a cruise with Princess Cruises. 104 days in total to be exact.

How many days? Yes 104 days. It feels like a mini-lifetime.

Have any of you been on a world cruise – considered one? I’m a cruise newbie and would love your tips.

And if you’re thinking of a cruise (Hell Yeah!) you can check out theΒ Princess Cruises world cruises here, and just do it, because well, you know #Yolo – “You Only Live Once.” And right now, I reckon is the best time in our lives to get out, have adventures and travel.

Adventure Beckons

In just over 6 days time. This will be me … πŸ˜‰

Princess Cruises
WAAAAAHHH! My comfort zone and the cosy life I’ve lived in Perth is about to be blasted into (exciting) smithereens, and Β in four months time when I return, who knows, everything might have changed.

Bear with me here. I know I’m a lucky cow, but leaving my daughter who’s travelling to New Zealand, my son and his fiancee in SWA, and of course my Mum who’s in England is sending my motherly and homing instincts into turmoil. We will be scattered around the globe as a family.

Their lives will move on without me in attendance. I am not the rock around which they revolve after all.

How do I feel?

Well … excited, apprehensive, worried about my kids (yes it’s true, even though they are grown up) Β full of wonder, filled with awe, a little bit nervous and pretty much gagging to get aboard and get going!

Is it okay to be so full of discrepancies?

Trip of a Lifetime, Round the World on the Sea Princess

Why the silence?

I haven’t been able to tell you this news previously because I was worried I might be dreaming, and I was worried that perhaps it wouldn’t come true and I’d look a fool … and I was worried by my normal fear of failure.

I kept having to pinch myself. Still am.

You know that feeling? When something good happens to you and you think, “But I’m not good enough. This can’t be happening to me. They’ve got the wrong person. This is surely meant for someone else?”

I know you do. I do. You do. We all do. It happens with big things and small things if your antenna is on high womanly alert.

Today I want to tell you that if you follow your dreams. pursue your passions, work hard, maintain your integrity and stay true to your life purpose that anything is possible. Whatever age you are.

Yes truly. Anything is possible.

But, I’m also going to say, be careful what you dream off.

If ‘the big thing’ suddenly crops up – are you ready to take up that opportunity? Are you willing to make some sacrifices? Are you ready to risk something to gain more? Are you ready to say Yes, when a small squeaky voice inside is saying No.

Of course you are!

Are you ready to go against the grain, and even perhaps have others be a teensy bit envious of you, wish they were you, and wonder what your secret is?

You have to.

Having said that, I’ll admit, I very nearly said “No”.

Because so much of this was too hard, too soon, too complicated and I wanted to say, Hell! I’m not the person you want or need. It’s All Too Tricky, besides, what if I’m not good enough?

But some little gremlin inside, just kept saying … “You Can Do This Kiddo”.

Maybe that little gremlin is called “Opportunity Knocks”. I’m not sure. But he’s hell of a persistent little fellow.

So here we are. One week to go. This time next Sunday we’ll be in Sydney. And holy moley we’ll be boarding the Sea Princess bound for a world cruising adventure – around the globe not in 88 days but in 104 days.

Ohmigosh!

This is the first time in 50 years that the Princess Line has offered a complimentary around-the-world cruise to a member of the media, journalist, blogger, editor Β – whatever.

Me! Crikey. What were they thinking?

Oh Blimey No Pressure Jo.

Please be my virtual cruise ship buddies

Will you come with me on this journey, Lifestylers? Will You? Please say yes, Β because I’m so going to need you in my thoughts and in my mind bolstering me up as we sail the seas and maybe just maybe he himself gets fed up with me myself in our seafaring cabin writing blog posts and creating videos, and I’ll wish I could skip ship and be with you in person.

If one of us (he or me) doesn’t return, you know what to do. Answers on a postcard please πŸ™‚

Princess Cruises

If only I could charter the Sea Princess and take you all along with me. If only. We would eat lots of Norman Love chocolate together and sip a cocktail or two or three.

The very next best thing I can do is invite you on a virtual journey as we sail to 27 countries with exotic experiences to uncover in 39 destinations, covering 28,000 nautical miles on a global voyage aboard a huge ship which will be like a 5 star luxury floating hotel away from home.

I can’t wait. I can hardly type for excitement πŸ™‚

Please come along for the virtual ride, or take life by the horns and book yourself on a cruise of your own choice. You know #YOLO! Life’s all about experiences, not possessions.

Anyways … There will be everyday tweets on Twitter, and loads of pics and and posts on Facebook at Lifestyle Fifty and I’ll be Instagramming at Lifestyle FiftyΒ with an everyday photo challenge #104days with #PrincessRTW, and of course posting on the blog here.

Are you signed up for the free Newsletter?

Give it a go, why not? You’ll get my inside thoughts Β (for what they’re worth) and snippets of inspiration which I don’t reaveal on the blog, in a newsy email every two weeks.

And Yay, if you’re signed up, you won’t miss a post from the cruise.

Just pop your email in the box below and hit subscribe.

It would be great if you’d hit follow and come along for the ride. I promise you won’t be bored.

Right now I’m sitting on the sofa, with two red candles flickering on the old coffee table we bought in South Africa. I’m overlooking the lake, and listening to the squall coming in from the south as well as a number of raucous frogs giving their best attempt at philharmonic.

Very comfortable. Very homely.

But I’m thinking about packing.

Princess Cruises

My clothes are in a big heap upstairs, waiting to be chosen to be packed into a small suitcase for their trip of a lifetime.

Princess Cruises

Choose Me Me Me, they’re saying. They can’t all come.

So what to take, what to leave behind?

I can’t fit everything in.

If you’d help me choose my formal wear for the nights when I have to dress up, I’d be completely grateful.

Here’s a little video, I hope it might make you smile, but more importantly – what the Dickens should I choose because I can’t take it all with me. Please would you let me know which dress for formal nights – Silver, Royal Blue or Purple?

It’s a bit Princessy, but what the heck … #YOLO … I may never get another chance. So this is it, I’m grabbing it by the horns, just like you should too.

With love, best wishes and so Very Much Excitement πŸ™‚ and here’s to seeing you popping up in my virtual suitcase.

You know I’ll be looking for you and waiting for you with a great big Princess Cruises hug x

  1. Hi Jo, What a fabulous opportunity! I look forward to following your journey. Four months is a lot of time to be away from home. We did it recently (not on a cruise) and returned at the end of March. I was reticent about so much time away and thought I overdid it with the amount of time that I planned. When we arrived home, I no longer thought that it was too much. Four months traveling was fantastic; I hope it is for you too!

    • Hi Wendy, thanks for your enthusiastic comment, and so glad you enjoyed the four months travelling. I really hope I can entertain you on this trip of a lifetime cruise too πŸ™‚

    • Hello Ruth! How lovely to ‘see’ you – and thank you. The planets couldn’t have aligned better for me, you’re so right!

    • Hello Ruth! Nice to ‘see’ you, thank you for popping by. Yes, the planets have been very obliging aligning as they have for me – and I’m very grateful πŸ™‚

  10. Hi Jo, I’m so excited to be coming along as an armchair traveller… right around the whole world, how fantastic. Look forward to reading it all… and then maybe doing a massive cruise too when our children grow up.

  11. What a fantastic opportunity. I was only thinking the other day how great a cruise would be for a relaxing, hands-free holiday. Incredible to go for so long and around the world. Have an amazing time! Can’t wait to read all about it and see the photos.

    • Hi Caz, Thanks so much! I think back to when we, like you, had young kids, and yes a hands-free holiday on a family cruise with lots to occupy the kids would have been just the ticket. Thanks for following along πŸ™‚

  12. Catherine says:

Oh Jo this sounds WONDERFUL! I’ll look forward to following your adventure and I KNOW you’ll do yourself (and Princess Cruises) proud with your exciting and news-filled blog posts. Bon Voyage

  13. You dark horse Jo, keeping this under one of your many hats for all this time! Congratulations, this is so well deserved, and I’m looking forward to reading your travel log. Why not take all the dresses? It looks like the silver and blue particularly would fold up into almost nothing, and it’s a long trip so there’s sure to be a number of formal nights. They all look stunning on you. Bon Voyage!

  14. I hope you have a wonderful time. I look forward to reading your posts.

  15. What a wonderful adventure! Congratulations and enjoy this round the world cruise with Princess Cruises! We certainly look forward to your tweets and postings about the cruise!

  16. How incredibly exciting! I shall be following along with you with great interest. My husband has been looking up various multi-month, around-the-world cruise itineraries and reading them aloud to me. He’s already dreaming about the time with all our kids are independent. The youngest is only about to turn 11 years old, so we still have a ways to go. I can’t wait to read how it is for you so I can start dreaming, too.

  17. What a wonderful opportunity for you and many many congrats for this coming true. I like how you challenged your initial thought about ‘not going’. I am cheering you & hub on your journey and the way in which you are getting to do something most people only dream about! Denyse #teamIBOT

  18. What an unbelievable opportunity!!! 100+ days… I would have trouble believing it haha. That is truly amazing and I hope you enjoy every single second of it!

  19. What a wonderful – WONDERFUL opportunity, and so well deserved! I know EXACTLY what you mean by the ‘I don’t really deserve the good stuff do I?'” or the ‘When’s the bad going to follow…”
Your insight it really spot on – and yes, you DO deserve it…you’ve worked hard and clearly Princess Cruises feel you’re THE representative for them.
I, for one, will be following your adventures. If you make it to Athens, PLEASE get in touch!

    • Thanks Rebecca for your very kind words, and I’m glad my thoughts connected with you in good way. I’ll look forward to ‘seeing’ you on the blog and in the comments and one day when we get to Athens I’ll definitely get in touch – as you must too if you are in SWA πŸ™‚

  20. Wow, wow, wow!!!! You truly are going to have the time of your life. I LOVED the video at the end. I’d say bring them all they all look stunning at in 104 days you’ll have plenty of time to wear them. I’ll be following along your adventure. Very excited for you. πŸ˜€

    • Hi Sue, I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! You have made me think that I should take all three dresses. I’m happy to think you’ll be following along and look forward to your comments and suggestions.

  21. Jenny Buzer says:

Wow Jo, couldn’t happen to nicer people. Enjoy!!

  22. Jo, your video is a riot! What an awesome opportunity to do a cruise….for 104 days! It will be an adventure of a lifetime and I’m dying to hear all about the highs and (hopefully no) lows. Have an absolutely wonderful time!

    • Hi Janet, thanks so much! Yes it is certainly an adventure of a lifetime and thank you for saying you’ll follow along. It means a lot to me πŸ™‚

  23. Go you good thing! Enjoy xx

  24. I used caftans for formal wear, because they could be dressed up or dressed down. I pack things than can be rolled up and are comfortable to wear. My cashmere shawl always goes with me, because it serves as a blanket, shawl, scarf. I’m never cold when I have this. I have a “breathable” rain jacket with a hood from Australia that packs small and serves as both a jacket and rain wear in all kinds of weather.

I am definitely going to follow you on this cruise, because my girl friend and I have thought about doing this at some time.

    • Great tips! Thanks Lucy … I’ll be taking them onboard (ahem). The breathable rain jacket with a hood sounds a go for sure. Great that you’ve thought about doing one of these world cruises – I’ll keep you posted on how it goes and wouldn’t it be great if I was following you this time next year?

  25. Jenny Shenton says:

Fantastic news Jo ! Really look forward to following around the world !
LOVE the dresses , you’ll knock their socks off , stunning !
Most of all have fun together
    Jenny x

    • Thank you Jenny! So happy you like the dresses (X) and that you’ll be following us around the world on the blog and Facebook.

  26. Dreams really DO come true! I so get what you’re saying about not wanting to jinx your good luck by sharing the news with others and even letting opportunities slip by because of a secret fear … So glad you’ve taken the challenge and are now on to that crucial next step – what to wear???? Loved your video and the silver dress – maybe change up the look with different scarves? Can’t wait to read about your real life princess adventures!

    • Sometimes it’s being honest about those sort of things that reveal our humanity hey Anita – I’m glad you could relate. Yes, being onto what to wear is a little more narcissistic, but easier than the angst! So glad that you’re going to be following along πŸ™‚

  27. Gr8 video Jo – very clever … The royal blue frock with the pink shawl – definitely but I agree you’ll need all three since u will be away for such a long time and they don’t take up much space. Mind u – no doubt u will pick up things along the way as well. Bon voyage and look forward to sharing your journey

    • Thank you Ingrid – the video was great fun but thank you for ‘clever’ – not sure I can wear that hat, and Dave had a lot to do with it. So glad that you’ll share the journey too πŸ™‚

  28. How super exciting. Can’t wait to follow your adventures. I’ve been reading about the round the world trip and thought it sounded ideal. You’re very lucky you can take off for 104 days. I’m still feeling the aftermath of my 3 day trip to Sydney.

    • Hello Raych, I hope you are soon going to feel recovered and better. Taking our health for granted is something that I try not to do and I do count my blessings. Our health is tenuous and you’re right for a trip like this you have to be in fine fettle to cope. Wishing you well xx and thank you for taking the time to pop by.

  29. Fabulous news Jo. You’re perfect for this! What the heck…take all 3 dresses! You’ve got 104 days and you are going to need them all! Have the best trip!

  30. Congrats Jo! This is amazing. Definitely take the silver dress and can’t wait for your updates.

    • Thank you Christina πŸ™‚ Will be lovely to think you’re following along and with me in a virtual way, and I’ll take your stylish-know-how advice about the silver dress πŸ™‚

  31. Hi ya Jo, reckon you will need all 3 of those ‘frocks’, they don’t take up much room and will hang until they are needed. Bloody marvelous plan.
Looking forward to updates and pics and vids.
    Cheers

  32. So happy for you Jo. Although we’re yet to meet, you’ve been my inspiration on my own blogging journey and I’m sure that this is not luck but a result of all your hard work and dedication over the years. Enjoy every minute and I’m sure I won’t be alone in following your amazing journey.

    • Thank you Nina. That’s so lovely – I love being able to inspire. I hope your blogging journey will move forward in as equally a fulfilling way as mine. Yes, I agree, it’s not luck, blogging takes hard work and passion – not only to sit in front of a computer and write but also to learn about technical things, network, connect and get out and live lots so you can write about it! Your star shines too Nina.

  33. Janet aka Middle Aged Mama says:

Such wonderful news Jo! You will LOVE it and I look forward to following your pics and updates!

  34. OMG! That is fantastic news Jo. When you said you had a big announcement I didn’t think it would be this BIG!! I will interested to learn you itinerary and follow the cruise throughout. I hope you have the time of your life. Good luck with the packing! I would be in a complete dither trying to work out what to pack. I guess separates and clothing that is easy to launder and doesn’t crease is the best options.

  35. Wow, This is an amazing opportunity and I’m so glad you accepted it! We’ll all be along for the ride too. Yipee!

  36. Oh wow, how exciting Jo, I’m so pleased for you. Look forward to following you around the world. xx

  37. How absolutely wonderful Jo and what a great post. I have never been on a cruise so I will look forward to following your journey. Enjoy this wonderful adventure and with your lovely man beside you.xx

  38. Absolutely luv the video, keep up the great work Jo XXXXX

  39. Love the video. This is so exciting. I look forward to reading all about the cruise.

    • Hello Donna! I’m really glad you liked the video. We had quite a giggle making it and so we’re chuffed that it’s being well received. Thanks for popping by and will keep you posted πŸ™‚

  40. How exciting Jo. Congratulations. So looking forward to seeing your posts xxxxxxx

    • Hi Rae! Oh thank you! Will keep you posted with updates, and thank you so much for taking the time to read and comment. You know I appreciate it xx

  41. So excited for you Jo
And so looking forward to more of those Princess Tales – Video is so you (with Dave in Production!!! πŸ™‚ )
Will avidly follow along on this trip of a lifetime – Where’s the first port of call? πŸ˜€

    • Thank you Linda! The first port of call is Melbourne, then Adelaide, then Freo and then we head away from Australia to Colombo. Will bring you more Princess Tales by Dave as we go along – thanks for your kind words – we had a giggle making the video, and I’m glad it turned out okay.

Hello there! We love getting your replies and comments :)
