The Runways at Sea staged on Sea Princess are always great fun, and a great way for guests to gain some new fashion ideas and inspiration.
Passengers are invited to be models and a grand event is held in the Atrium at the heart of the ship. It’s always well attended and people line the stairs and balconies; there’s generally standing room only!

The Fashion Show held a couple of days ago was to showcase the Joseph Ribkoff collection available onboard in the boutique .
Everytime I wander into the store and look at Joseph Ribkoff’s styles I’m tempted to buy something, and I do feel they are ideal for women over 50. The cut and the fabrics used are flattering, forgiving (of our lumps and bumps) and oh so very stylish.
Anyway, I was lucky to be able to catch up with some of the lovely models and found out a little bit about them and where they come from, and I think you’ll agree they all look lovely in Joseph Ribkoff outfits accessorised with gorgeous, sparkly Effy Jewellery, also available onboard at the Effy boutique. I also asked them for some cruise inspiration and their fashion tips for women over 50.

Why do you love cruising?
“It’s a woman’s holiday! We don’t have to do ANYTHING! No cooking, no washing up, no buying food! Unlike caravanning for instance!
Life Lesson learnt from cruising?
Start saving for retirement when you’re young, build up your superannuation so that you can enjoy things like cruises when you’re retired.
Fashion Tip?
Wear what suits you. Don’t squeeze into things that don’t fit you, but dress for your age and body shape.
Meet Julie
Why do you love cruising?
You don’t have the drama of airports and there are so many choices for things to do on board. I really do Come Back New after a cruise. You’re also exposed to different cultures, and different histories, and have so many new travel experiences.
Life Lesson learnt from cruising?
Have a sense of adventure and make every minute count.
Fashion Tip
Don’t wear really short dresses when you’re over 50.

Why do you love cruising?
You only have to unpack once and that’s it! Then you can relax and forget everything. You’re in a moving hotel! It’s great.
Life Lesson learnt from cruising?
Live every day as if it’s your last.
Fashion Tip
Wear things to suit your body shape but make sure you exercise and look after yourself. If you take care of yourself you’ll automatically look more feminine. Mutton dressed up as lamb is not a good look.

Take each day as it comes.

Trust yourself. Be kind to yourself and others.

Why do you love cruising?
It’s so lovely to be able to just sit and relax. If you want to get involved there are lots of activities on board but if you don’t you don’t have to. I also love that you only have to unpack once.
Life Lesson learnt from cruising?
Enjoy the variety – everywhere you go is so different. There are so many different destinations. Enjoy them all!
Fashion Tip
Dress how you want to dress but don’t make the ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ mistake. On the other hand there’s no need to be dowdy as you get older.
Thanks to all the lovely ladies who chatted to me, and well done to everyone, participants and organisers, on another fabulous Runway at Sea!
I’m a guest of Princess Cruises but all opinions are my own.
I love Julie’s pants and would definitely love a pair of those. You all look so relaxed!
Those pants are great Seana – they look great on Julie and I had a look at them in the boutique, they are so floaty and feminine.
Hmm they’re all great looks but I especially like Rose’s, Julie from Adelaide, and Sue’s outfits 🙂
Hello Janet! We would have had a fine old time sitting side by side giving the nod to which outfits we liked best 🙂
I like Rose’s dress too with the bold circle pattern and flattering shift style. They did a Fashion Parade on one of the cruises I went on too and I must admit there were some nice things in the shops. You did a great job covering this Jo and I loved reading the lady’s responses to your questions.
Glad you enjoyed this post Kathy – and yes, Rose’s dress was beautiful and very flattering.
I want to know where you were Jo?!!!
I’m sure between the interviewing you could have slipped out in your choice 🙂
Cruising certainly seems to be a something that once experienced has you you begging for more, looking at all the veterans on board!
When will you be off again I wonder?
Behind the camera was fine for me, Linda 😉 but have to admit I wouldn’t have minded slipping on a little Joseph Ribkoff number 🙂 Yes, there is definitely an addictive quality to cruising 🙂
I like Rose’s dress. The Runways is a surprise for me as I never considered a fashion parade on a boat before.
It’s lovely hey Jan – would suit you too 🙂 Yes, the fashion shows are great fun, and a great crowd puller 🙂
