I’ve done quite a few bloggie interviews where I’ve been asked , “What’s your Style?”
To tell you the truth I always draw a bit of a blank because at heart I think I’m a bit of a chameleon and adapt my style to suit different occasions. But I suppose deep down personal style is driven more by what you would most prefer to wear given the chance.
What shall I wear today?
When I ask myself this question my brain often runs into a fog! I fumble through my wardrobe often discarding smart clothes for comfortable clothes.
For me my everday clothes have to be comfy, so too my shoes (I don’t know about you but there’s nothing worse than my toes being pinched) but that’s not to say that I don’t enjoy wearing a colour or accessory to make a bit of a statement to a comfortable but casual outfit, like below. The jeggings are from Millers Fashions, the pink top is from a boutique in England and the boots are from Millers. The pashmina is from a bazaar in Turkey.
When I was looking for inspiration for this post, I came upon a quiz, which if you’re interested you can do here : Style Quiz
Although I take these sorts of quizzes with a pinch of salt, they’re always a bit of fun, and I was quite surprised with the result because it’s probably fairly true.
I’ll be interested to know what your style is – let me know in the comments ๐
My look came up as: Sporty (Ha!)
“You are a very active person, and it’s likely that you are also quite athletic and fit.
Since you’re often on the go, you prefer clothes that are extremely comfortable and versatile.
You never know when you’re about to take off on a hike or bike ride, so there’s no way you’re wearing shoes that are hard to walk in!”
The next bit I had to giggle at thought, because it’s not true!
“Besides, you work hard for your sporty frame, so you might as well show it off with some form fitting clothing!”
I’m not sure if a daily walk and a few stretches count, and my belly doesn’t allow for ‘form fitting clothing’.
In the past I’ve always thought of my style as a little bit Boho, not thinking that actually I tend to dress ready for action a lot of the time. I like to walk from car to restaurant, I like to take the stairs instead of the escalator, I like to go bicycling, and if there’s a chance to sit on the grass I like to do that too, so my clothes and footwear must work for me all the time.
What about you?
Anyway, I’ve put together a look which I think perfectly suits the idea of sporty, but which would suit the not-so-sporty too. It’s comfortable and casual, but if I had any trouble at all walking in those purdy booties I’d whip them off for a pair of flats! I’ve based the look on H & M who have just opened up in Perth (Yay!) but you could pop over to the online store which I’ve linked to if there isn’t a store near you. (I am not an affiliate of H & M, although I am an affiliate of Millers)
Hi Jo, I did the quiz and it turns out my style is Playful, lol. Reading the description it sounds exactly like me!
I’d probably get on well with Cheryl… I come across as a 54 year old teenager as well. I even ‘dress up’ in jeans, but it’s all about feeling comfortable. I just look silly in ‘smart’ clothes (and I’m the wrong shape for fashion), but since I tend to keep the things I like to do fairly casual, too, it suits me and who I am. As for shoes, I have short, wide feet, so I mostly live in runners (and a gorgeous pair of flat boots that are close to needing replacing if I can find another pair quite like them) or hiking boots, and, if I try wearing anything more dressy, I usually end up kicking them off! Love a pretty scarf, though!
I love how you describe your own style Niquie and there are tips in there for all of us. It’s great when to heat about women (er teenagers!) who are comfortable with who they are and what they wear. Thank you for saying it like it is.
I took the quiz Jo – tells me I’m casual – and that’s pretty spot on. Give me well fitting jeans, a great tee and a jacket and I’m happy. Add boots, sandals or some other comfortable footwear and I’m complete. I own so many beautiful shoes, but seem to live and die in low heeled boots, flats, thongs, sandals. I’m the only 54 year old teenager I know! Sigh.
Don’t stop being that teenager Cheryl! Your look sounds great ๐
Style really is in the eye of the beholder. Sometimes I like to look sporty, sometimes classic, sometimes cool and casual and also sometimes a bit Boho girl! I think it is good to mix it up a little and experiment with different looks. Why not? LIfe is too short to be boring!! p.s: I do like your casual look by H&M.
I think it’s good to mix things up too Kathy. I do. But I think I have at heart a look which is my go-to look, which is maybe a bit lazy ๐ Yes, life is too short to be boring!
Love the look you have put together Jo, I think maybe I’m sometimes classic sometimes frumpy, I struggle with casual unless I’m in my pj’s x
I think you are always classic Rae. Frumpy? No ways! Sounds like you have some fun PJ’s ๐ My total casual reverts to fluffy pink dressing gown!
I would love to be classic and stylish, but I think I am a casual sort of gal.
I think you rock country casual Jill ๐
I asked my family and friends this question a while back, and the answer came back as “classic”. On the one hand I like that answer because it sounds stylish; but on the other hand it sounds a bit boring! ๐
I think it sounds stylish and classy. Which you are ๐ Wish mine had come back as classic! I’m going to ask someone else other than the internet and see what variations come up!
