What are Treggings? Treggings are what many would call ‘upgraded leggings’ stylishly tweaked to look like trousers. As jeggings are to jeans, so treggings are to trousers.
Treggings are leggings styled to look like trousers. Much like jeggings, treggings is a portmanteau of trousers and leggings.
What are Treggings – Wikipedia
Treggings fit just like leggings, but are made out of a thicker fabric.
Who really knows when they became part of the fashion scene, but since they arrived it’s pretty obvious that they are here to stay.

The Difference Between Leggings and Jeggings and Treggings?
All 3 styles are super comfortable, great for sitting down for long periods of time, brilliant for throwing a big top over, dressing up or dressing up. They’re versatile and essential item for your capsule wardrobe.
Chronologically speaking, leggings arrived first. They became a part of the fashion scene in the swinging sixties, and were adapted from the capri style trousers albeit slightly tighter to the leg.
Jeggings made an appearance around the millennium and offered us a tight legging, made of jean material made to look like skin-tight denim. For the ultimate guide to Jeggings check out this post: What are Jeggings? 21 Things You Need to Know.
Treggings appeared a little while later and fit just like leggings, but are made out of a thicker fabric giving a more trouser look. They are also known as not as less glam names such as pencil or slim trousers.
Which To Choose: Leggings, Jeggings or Treggings?
Reaching for the right option is going to depend on the occasion.
What are Leggings?
Leggings tend to be more casual and honestly, less forgiving. They are less formal and depending on the material, and light of day, can be seen through.
Light coloured knickers under black leggings in the wrong light is a total disaster. Leggings should really have a warning on them for the wearer to be cautious when worn.
However, they can be versatile when worn with longer tops, and are a great layering garment for colder months.

Are leggings still in style?
Yes absolutely, as long as you wear them with a longer length blouse.
What are Jeggings?
Jeggings look just like jeans but are made of thinner material and provide the same advantages as leggings.
Jeggings afford a very trendy, casual look and they look great with boots, tennis shoes, sandals, flats and yes, high heels (albeit not everyone can pull this one off).

It’s good to note that unless you work in a very informal workplace, leggings and jeggings are generally inappropriate for more professional, formal settings or events. Both leggings and jeggings fall under the casual attire and tend to lend themselves to more casual accessorising and layering.
Perhaps the biggest fashion faux pas with these two items of clothing is what you wear on your top half and what you leave exposed below. The words ‘camel toe’ spring to mind. Warning: Just be aware.

What are Treggings?
Treggings are made out of material that is slightly thicker than leggings that stretch such as material like knit type cloth and without the ‘see-through’ issue.
Many are made with added trouser-style details like pockets or a zip that make them look like a slim pair of trousers.
They are very comfortable, easy to pull-on (sometimes with a zip font, back or sides) and look super stylish paired with a blazer or jacket in a professional capacity.
Treggings are a great option for women over 50 who are looking for the comfort of leggings, but do not want the downsides that come with them such as being see through and unforgiving to lumps and bumps. A quality pair of treggings can really help pull you in and flatten your belly as well as offer total comfort.

Treggings Meaning
The meaning of treggings could basically be explained as, comfotably tailored trousers that fit like leggings.
Treggings Material
Treggings are made from a stretchy material like a ponte knit or a blend of lycra and spandex combined with cotton or polyester. They’re designed to stretch with you but hold you in tight at the same time.
Treggings and Work
As we all head back into work after COVID, treggings could be just the thing to help ease us back into real clothes versus PJ’s (which have become normal daywear attire for many of us working from home). They stretch with you, yet look professional and you don’t have to worry about shedding those extra few pounds just yet.
How To Wear Treggings
The ways you can wear treggings is endless. They are incredibly versatile and suitable for every body shape.
Treggings are not as ‘tight’ on the body as leggings, so they can be worn with items that are shorter in nature such as t-shirts, cropped jackets and shirts that are tucked on.
They also lend themselves well to the layered look.
Any style footwear can work with treggings. Try them with sneakers, or ankle boots for an up to date look.
As you can see from our designs above, they are super versatile and can be worn with chunky boots, trainers, derbys or flats and seriously crank-up your style. Add some beautiful accessories and handbags you are good to go to enjoy comfort and style all-in-one.
So the next time someone asks you “what are treggings?”, not only will you be able to confidently tell them what they are, but you will be able to show them how to wear them!
