Healthy lifestyle Habits
Today Sue shares with us some of her easy to follow healthy lifestyle habits, and her makeup tips for staying sizzling at 50, 60 … and beyond.
Skin Tips
I recently turned 60 and what a wonderful celebration of my life with family and friends. I was certainly feeling the love.
My advice to my daughter when she was younger was moisturise, moisturise, moisturise! I have always tried to look after my skin and that means cleansing morning and evening. Lately I’ve been using DoTerra products which are natural. I use the DoTerra Hydrating Cream and also the Essential Serum.
I also use a tinted moisturiser with sunscreen if I don’t want to wear makeup. Living in Queensland, Australia, we have the highest rates of melanoma so a good sunscreen is vital especially as I spend a lot of time outdoors.
Find an exercise you love and just move!
Keeping fit and active as we age is such an important healthy lifestyle habit to stick to. It’s important for our health and well-being and helps me keep up with my 3 year old grandson. I started running at 50 and run with a group of friends each week.
We call ourselves the Saturday Sisters supporting and encouraging each other. I also incorporate a couple of PT sessions or yoga each week for strength training to keep my muscles and bones strong.
The important thing is to find something you enjoy because you are more likely to stick to it. It might be yoga, swimming, cycling or even belly dancing. Just have fun and you won’t feel like you are exercising at all. Walking can be a great way to keep fit and enjoy your surroundings, especially if you can walk somewhere beautiful or scenically interesting.
Make healthier food choices most of the time
I’m passionate about being healthy so I try to make healthier food choices most of the time.
I don’t believe in diets but follow a sensible eating plan and I definitely enjoy my treats occasionally and a glass of bubbly or red. Life is for living so I believe in the 80/20 rule – 80% healthy and 20% for treats. Life would be pretty boring if we didn’t indulge, wouldn’t it!
Me time
I can’t emphasise enough the importance of having ‘Me Time’. Schedule regular time out to do something just for yourself. We are so busy running around after others for most of our life that we forget to look after our own mental and physical well-being. Having ‘me time’ makes for a happier YOU.
Know your style
I love a classic style and I understand what looks flattering on me and what doesn’t. Dressing to impress others is not always successful. You need to feel comfortable in what you are wearing and most importantly love and respect yourself for the beautiful woman you are.
You need to get to know how to dress for your own style.
From Drab to Fab in just 10 minutes
How do I personally go from Drab to Fab?
I start with a cleansed and moisturised face – that is a must. I apply a thin layer of Covergirl Outlast Stay Fabulous 3 in 1 which has a 20+ sunscreen. Blush is an Estee Lauder in blushing Nude, then the Youngblood Brow Artiste in Blonde to define my brows, followed by an eyeshadow palette in brown hues – I use a dark one on the lid and lighter on the brow bone area of the eye. Some black eyeliner, mascara and lipstick completes the look!
This really only takes me less than 10 minutes to do.
