I was chatting to one of the lovely people at Millers the other day who was telling me that over the years, Millers have struggled to find mature models through the usual casting agencies.
“We’ve always wondered why this age group are so under-represented. Particularly when we see so many beautiful women in our stores,” she told me.
And I get that. In society, culture, fashion and advertising the mature woman is often overlooked – who hasn’t felt invisible at some stage whether it be going for a job or at an event or just in the world at large?
We are bombarded with images of youth and tight skinned, long limbed nubile nymphets in the media but very few women who look like like well, err, us, as we do now, middle aged (and beyond) still looking gorgeous in our own way – just not in the way the youth-centric press would like us to.
As part of the Seeing Me Project, Millers have chosen real life women to feature in the campaign and if you scroll on down you’ll find links to the video, which I think you’ll agree is really fun and heartening too.
3 Different Looks from one main item
I was invited to select some clothes to show how very in tune Millers are with our needs for style and comfort. I decided to base three different looks around … A) Mid calf Capri pants and B) An easy to wear dress to show not only how versatile and well matched Millers clothes are, but also to highlight how different you can look quite easily with just a few small changes.

Most of the selected items are new season items and you can find them in-store or on the website, while one or two bits and bobs, like the grey T, scarf, black boots and grey sandals are from previous jaunts to Millers. It’s great how previous season garments match up with the new season offerings.

Which look do you like best?

Seeing Me Project
Anyway, Millers have come up with a great project called Seeing Me, which you could get involved in too if you want to.
“We decided to take matters into our own hands and cast women ourselves. We reached out to our women through a Facebook competition and we were blown away by the responses. Our new campaign is called ‘Millers & Me’ and it’s where we showcase our real customers. We wanted our women to feel proud of who they are, and who they’ve become.”
The Millers Seeing Me Project celebrates the mature woman.
“Our women have raised families and supported them. They’ve given love and life. They’ve given everything. They’re stronger than they realise, wiser than they know and more loved than they could ever imagine. Our women are amazing. And they deserve to be seen and celebrated!”
Want to take part?

Thanks for this fantastic post. I just watched the Millers ad which I thought was fantastic. Great to see that we can still be stylish. The clothes all look great on you.
Thanks Sandra. Yes, the Millers Ad is so cool isn’t it. I don’t normally enjoy fashion adverts but this one keeps it real.
The dress with green cardi looks terrific on you Jo!
Thanks Jo. It’s amazing how one small thi g can change a whole look.
Love your Miller’s style Jo. In fact you make it look very ‘unMillerish’ and I love the concept of this campaign. It’s time for women our age to feel attractive and stylish.
Thanks Kathy. Yes time for the mature woman to claim her place in the fashion stakes.
I like the Moroccan Spice print – even the name is gorgeous – I just loved Morocco. I like it equally with the green and black. Go girl!
The colours are lovely hey Jan 🙂 And thank you 🙂
Oh I love that dress Jo! So versatile – and perfect for layering for the crazy Melbourne weather we have here. 😉
Thank you Renee 🙂 Yes it’s a great dress up, dress down or layer dress and forgiving around the hips too 🙂
Hi Jo, I love how the campaign embraces real woman. You look pretty terrific to x
Awww, thank you Rae x Yes, it’s a great campaign. It’s great to see us being treated as still having a life and style by big brands 🙂
I popped into Millers today and I did like this dress, it looks great on you, but as it was straps I steered away from it (you know that arm thing…) , but now I see how you have teamed with with a cardi it looks great! (on you anyways…)
I too was worried about the straps Jill which is why those little bolero tops are so great with it. They are slight enough to wear in summer time, and also would protect us from the sun a bit too. I love the floatiness of this dress – it’s very giving. Give it a go, why not?!
