Help Support Independent Winemakers
I’ve just discovered Naked Wines. A wonderful revelation when it comes to finding quality wines at reasonable prices that won’t break the bank.
Naked Wines (link goes to the Naked Wines history on Wikipedia) offer a selection of fine wines crafted by independent winemakers. And that’s a win for me because I love supporting smaller producers, and I love supporting local.
Naked Wines business model for Australia is set up to support small Australian and New Zealand winemakers whose passion lies in the winemaking.
Naked Wines says, “Squeeze the grapes, not the winemakers.”
By cutting out the middlemen their aim is to create a win-win deal for winemakers and wine lovers. In fact they are shaving around 30% off market price for their customers.
I’m sharing my first delivery of a selection of quality wines from Naked Wines with family and friends, and I’m posting details of the (6 gifted) wines I received at the end of this blog post, along with short descriptions.
My favorite wine, so far, has to be the DreamBird Pipsqueak Fizz.
My husband loves loves rose wine, and I love white wine, so in future we can split a box and mix and match.
In the meantime if you want to grab yourself a fabulous selection of wines at a bargain price, then you can unlock a super Naked Wines discount for first time buyers, and get $100 off your first 12 wines for just $89.99.

Naked Wines Review
Find Your New Favourite Wine With Naked Wines.
Here are my thoughts and notes, about the 6 wines in the Naked Wines selection that I received. First up I have to say that they were all quality wines and we enjoyed them all.
Lover’s Grave by Coby Ludwig, 2023 Rose, Great Southern.
This rose from the Great Southern wine region of WA has a lovely savouriness with a hint of cherries.
It was selected as a Finalist for 2024 Wine of the Year.
It’s a combination of sensational Shiraz and Tempranillo fruit from vineyards in Mt Barker, WA. Made in a dry style the wine combines a savoury taste of sour cherries and a touch of spice.
Our thoughts : Dry, savoury and fabulous with cheese. Dave particularly enjoyed this Rose, and we drank it with friends as the sun went down on a hot night in the Swan Vally while playing a game called Corn Toss. Perfection!
Red by Caroline Dunn. Barossa Valley Shiraz, 2022.
This is a fresh, bright shiraz with rich, juicy berry and blood plum flavours, gentle fragrant spice, a silky texture and a backbone of the tannins.
Caroline Dunn is winemaking royalty. The most awarded female winemaker in Australia, she was the first woman to win the Jimmy Watson Trophy (the most prestigious wine award in Australia) and counts a Best Shiraz in the World gong among her prizewinning stash!
Based in the heart of Australia’s most famous wine region, the Barossa Valley, Caroline lives and breathes wine. She weaves new world winemaking techniques together with premium fruit to create her much-loved signature reds.
Our Thoughts : Love the plum flavours on the palette, and the gentle hint of spice.
R PAULAZZO Small Batch, Riverina, Cabernet Petit Verdot, 2023.
This wine is touted as having aromas of blackcurrant and violets, complemented by rich dark cherry and wild blueberry flavours along with an integrated tannin structure with hints of spicy oak.
Winemaker, Rob Paulazzo has created a premium Bordeaux-style blend which was inspired by Rob’s time working in the Napa Valley where he first came across Petit Verdot.
Bordeaux wine lover’s – this one’s for you. You should pick up the aroma of blackcurrant and violets, along with dark fruit flavours like blackcurrant and blueberry with a shake of the spice jar.
Our Thoughts : Definitely a fine wine to be savoured with dinner. It’s rich and plummy with hints of blackcurrant. We enjoyed this wine with barbecued steak on a balmy summer’s night.
Dream Bird, Pipsqueak Fizz produced by Kym at Dream Bird Wines (WA)
Traditional Method made from Chenin Blanc, 2022, Margaret River.
Kym says: “In tribute to my beloved sister Birdie. This wine is made from Chenin Blanc sourced from Wilyabup, Margaret River. Bottle fermented in the traditional method and left to mature on lees for over 12 months.”
Aromas of green apple, lemon rind, nougat and cut hay. Delicate flavours balanced by a long acidity and a mouth-filling, fine bead. One for celebrating or on a Monday night just coz!
About the name: Pipsqueak was yet another nickname for Kym’s beloved sister Pip, aka “Birdie”.
Our thoughts: Ohmigosh I loved this Fizz! So did my girlfriends. In fact I’d go as far as to say I’d prefer to drink this on a hot day than any expensive French champagne. It’s crisp, it’s light and it’s so drinkable. Buy a case!
D.R.G. Sauvignon Blanc, Adelaide Hills, 2024.
Daryl Rex Groom is an internationally acclaimed winemaker making wines in Australia and California. Named winemaker of the year 8 times. Food and Wine Magazine named him one of 11 visionaries to change the world of wine.
Using a very ‘hands-off’ approach, Daryl has let the zesty characters shine through in this Sauvignon Blanc, and added a smidgen of un-oaked Barossa Semillon to bring a little richness. It’s crisp, relatively low in alcohol and smacks of citrus, grapefruit, apple and melon.
My thoughts: I love Sauvignon Blanc and generally prefer the New Zealand cold climate varieties. But this is a lovely wine – definitely crisp, and full of citrus fruit flavours on the tongue. Would definitely drink more of this wine.
Army of Grapes, Riesling 2024. Paul Nelson.
From Western Australia’s cooler climate regions this wine exhibits intense aromas from limes to beautifully scented fruits. A generous palate that displays crisp acidity is just off dry.
This gorgeous Riesling comes from the wild child of the West, Paul Nelson. Back by popular Angel demand, you’ll taste lively character and Paul’s winemaking prowess in every sip!
A gorgeous light straw and pale quartz appearance perfectly compliments the aromas of lifted citrus apple and green pear, wrapped with hints of passionfruit and white apple blossom.
Paul’s Riesling is a light bodied drop with hints of minerality, floral, citrus and spiced pear characters. It’s a textual masterpiece with acidity that continues to keep the palate fresh and vibrant. Finishing long with lingering lemon sorbet and lime flavours.
Our thoughts : We loved this Riesling and drank it with friends on a camping trip, sitting outside at lunchtime while nibbling a cheese platter that contained blue cheese and pear slices with biscuits. It’s light bodied, and we could definitely taste its minerality and pear flavours.
