How to Dress to Look Slim and Tall
I’m not tall, and I’m not particularly slim. So I’m always looking for ways to dress slimmer and look taller.
However, I believe that every size is beautiful, just as long as we are fit and healthy we must totally own our curves.
I guess fashion dictates that slim and tall is beautiful. It’s just commercialism, though we are old enough not to need to be part of this.
We have no good reason or need to look slimmer, but if wearing different styles can help you feel more confident because they give the illusion that you look slimmer, then I say – Go For It!

My Story: Why Fashion Over the Age of 50 is Still Important
You may think that fashion has nothing to do with your health as you age, but studies show otherwise!
Wearing clothes that are fashionable, comfortable and flattering boosts your self-esteem because you begin presenting a more youthful appearance. This in turn provides the knock on effect of increased motivation to take life by the horns and do the things you love.
My 50th birthday was several years ago and I realised that I’d been handed the gift of time. My children had left home and I had more time to spend on all the things I loved doing. There was more time to learn new skills, such as blogging and storytelling, and time to focus more on me.
But there was one thing that had been neglected during the rush of child rearing and supporting my husband as we moved around the world with his job – and that was my sense of fashion.
Despite the fact that I used to look fashionable in my twenties and early thirties, I realised that around the age of 50 I’d well and truly lost my way. Plus gravity had joined the party. The worst? My backside and boobs had started to sag and droop, and my tuck shop arms were becoming even flappier.
The clothes I used to look good in no longer suited me. The spaghetti shoulder straps and tight figure hugging dresses I’d once loved, now made me look cheap. I had to take myself sternly in hand, grab armfulls of fashion magazines, read all the fashion blogs I could find, consult my friends and fashion gurus, and then figure out what suited my ageing figure.
Over the 8 years (and counting) of writing Lifestyle Fifty, I’ve been constantly intrigued and amazed about the things I’ve learnt from trial and error and trying new things.
I’m not the oracle, and I’m always keen to hear your tips, tricks and suggestions about looking and feeling great after 50, so don’t be shy, and do add your thoughts in the comments section below.
